Tim Nolan is Executive Creative Director, A+E Networks. He was named to the role in 2016 to oversee all marketing creative for A+E Networks’ portfolio of brands, including A&E, HISTORY®, and Lifetime. As Executive Creative Director, Nolan has stewarded creative projects supporting documentaries such as Lifetime’s Surviving R. Kelly, and HISTORY’s Washington and Grant. Through his work and leadership, he aims to foster a culture of creative excellence and creative consistency across every A+E brand touchpoint around the world.
Prior to this role, Nolan was Senior Vice President of Marketing for Lifetime (2011-2016), creating impactful marketing campaigns around such tentpole programming initiatives as Project Runway, Witches of Eastend, Unreal, Devious Maids and Lifetime Movies. Previously, as Vice President of Creative and Brand Strategy for HISTORY (2008-2011), he created on-air campaigns for some of the network’s most successful series and specials, including Pawn Stars, American Pickers, America The Story of Us, Ice Road Truckers, Ax Men, 102 Minutes that Changed America, 1968 with Tom Brokaw and Band of Brothers, with additional oversight of all on-air, print, online and out-of-home marketing efforts. Moreover, he led the development and production of on-air promotions, short-form programming, VOD and sales videos across all HISTORY platforms, including HI™ (formerly History International), History en Espanol™, Military History™ and History.com™. Prior to joining HISTORY, Nolan was a writer and producer for A+E Networks, where he produced topical promos for its signature series Biography, Investigative Reports and American Justice.
In 2008, Nolan received an Emmy® Award as Executive Producer of Great Moments from the Campaign Trail, a series of documentary shorts produced exclusively for Elections ’08 On Demand, a VOD channel with material created exclusively for the 2008 presidential campaign season. The New York Times called the series “the most polished pieces on Elections ‘08.”
Nolan honed his skills in the on-air promotions department at HBO (1990-1998) working on numerous projects, such as the Emmy-nominated special preview, First Look, Mike Tyson and flagship program Inside the NFL. Nolan began his career writing, producing and editing commercials for broadcast on local cable in New York’s Hudson Valley.
Nolan currently serves as the Chair for Promax BDA, the global community of professionals in the marketing and promotion of television and video content, having served on its conference committee for a number of years. He is actively involved in a number of charitable organizations: Design on a Dime, Fashion for Action and Broadway Cares/Broadway Backwards. Additionally, he serves the Lupus Foundation of America as Chair of its New York Gala, and in 2017 produced a multi-platform global awareness campaign to drive research to help end lupus.
Nolan is a graduate of Ramapo College and lives in New York City.
